If I'm being honest, Birch Builds Classes came about by happenstance! I was doing my first job for a friend just 2 days after leaving my corporate career behind. I was finally living my dream; getting paid to play with tools and build something meaningful; a pantry for a friend who said it'll be "life changing" for her & her kids! During the finish work she asked me to explain how to caulk (and we both could barely keep it together as I explained how to handle caulk) and then she said I need teach these things. A couple weeks later I was sent a Facebook post of local women looking for DIY classes catered to women. The Universe was suddenly sending me too many signs to ignore!
So, if you're interested in beginning your DIY journey, but are intimidated by all the videos & posts and you prefer to learn hands on, then you've come to the right place! I'm not a formally trained educator, but I have a couple decades of DIY wins (and fails, fails are where you learn the most!) to share, and an arsenal of tools to teach you how to fearlessly and safely use. I believe you'll leave our classes with the knowledge & skills to make your projects a reality. We'll not only fix & build cool things, but we'll have some laughs and build a community of powerful & supportive DIY women!

This class specifically focuses on saws, and in DIY there are a lot of them. We'll learn the difference between the circular saw, jig saw, reciprocating saw, miter saw, and table saw, what the purpose & benefits of each is. We'll learn what the kerf is and why its so important to factor into our cuts, and we'll even "get our saw on" and make some cuts together.

In this class we'll apply the measuring & power tool skills we've learned in others classes to create something fun that you can take home. It could be a wine caddy, maybe some candle shelves, we can never have enough serving trays, or maybe something seasonally relevant. Whatever we choose to build, we'll definitely have a great time doing it!
I think there's a love/hate relationship with painting. In this class we'll hopefully teach you how to love it, because painting, whether its a wall, trim or cabinets, is the most inexpensive DIY you can to do make a huge transformation in a space. We'll go over the basics of paints, what to use where, brushes, rollers, and techniques I've picked up over the years to turn it into something I love to do.
Have a group of friends looking to get together and do something different? Let's plan a group class! We can pick a date/time that works for your group, a custom build, and I'll provide all the supplies. Use the request a class form below to kick off the planning!
Lately I've preferred experiences & education vs physical gifts. Maybe that's something comes with age? If you'd like to gift someone a truly unique educational experience, then reach out to me for a Class Gift Card! It'll enable the recipient to pick a scheduled class of their choosing.
